Do you guarantee that a CSIA certified chimney sweep will actually be on the job?
How long have you been in business?

The firebox is the area inside of your fireplace where
the fire actually burns. The bricks and masonry used in this area has to be able to stand up to extremely high temperatures (up to 800 degrees) and is vulnerable to deterioration over time. If you think your firebox may need repair, have our chimney sweep do an inspection to be sure the masonry is sound. Our chimney sweeps work rebuilding fireboxes and installing fireplace inserts in many CT towns including Wethersfield, Hebron, Manchester, Newington, Farmington, Avon and more. |
|
Have a Chimney Sweep Take a Close Look Inside Your Chimney
If the area inside your chimney looks worn, rough and cracked with pieces missing or masonry falling
to the bottom of the fireplace floor - there may be the possibility that the firebox needs rebuilding.
New fire bricks and refractory mortar can be built up inside of the original firebox allowing
continued use of the fireplace. A rebuilt firebox will look and work just like new. |

Moisture is our enemy here too, as with most components of your chimney, fireplace, or furnace venting systems. Moisture can break apart mortar and cause bricks to crack. A firebox with cracks or gaps can let very hot gases and embers into the combustible material behind the walls surrounding the firebox, causing a possible house fire. |
If you take a pointed tool and scrape the mortar joints inside of your fireplace, you will be able to gauge the relative health of the firebox. If the mortar crumbles and falls out easily, you may need to have Nayaug Chimney Services rake out the old mortar and replace it with a cement that is made for extremely high temperatures. If the bricks are
still in good shape this tuck pointing of the firebox will add many years to the life of your fireplace. |

When we do a complete firebox rebuild, all walls will be covered with new firebrick and the fireplace floor will also be coated with mortar that seals all small openings and cracks. This mortar is called "fireclay" and sometimes can even be used to seal the walls of the firebox if damage is minimal and a new layer of bricks are not necessary. |
|
Many fireplaces have pre-fabricated metal fireplace inserts with panels that can sometimes be replaced, but more often the entire fireplace insert will be replaced with a new one. Today you can choose from many different styles of inserts that add beauty and function to your aging firebox area. Or you may want to consider a stove placed in your old firebox area.
Fireboxes are also used to house wood, gas, pellet and coal stoves and appliances too. Proper venting and flue liners are crucial to the performance and safety of these units. The firebox itself is not subject to the heat of an open fire, so additional wear from heat will be minimal when you add a stove to a firebox area. Water and moisture will still need to be kept out of this area with proper chimney crown, chimney cap and chimney liner installations.
